A draft of the Integrated Energy and Climate Plan of Bosnia and Herzegovina (NECP) for the period up to 2030 has been prepared.
The Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of Bosnia and Herzegovina, in collaboration with the entity institutions and the Brčko District of BiH, has prepared the final draft of the Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) for the period up to 2030. This is the result of extensive work and cooperation between domestic and international institutions, organizations, as well as experts engaged in the development of the plan.
During the preparation of the final draft of the NECP, all received comments and suggestions were thoroughly analyzed. This includes contributions from domestic and international institutions, non-governmental organizations, and the Energy Community Secretariat, ensuring that the plan meets the needs of all relevant stakeholders and complies with international commitments.
The first draft of the NECP was presented in June 2023, and after that, the Ministry of Foreign Trade and Economic Relations of BiH, in collaboration with the entity institutions, organized three public discussions in Banja Luka, Sarajevo, and Mostar. The document was also available through the “eConsultations” platform, allowing the wider public to provide their suggestions. Thanks to this open debate and cooperation, the final draft reflects constructive proposals and adjustments in line with best practices.
It is expected that the draft will be adopted by the Council of Ministers of Bosnia and Herzegovina by the end of the year, committing the country to achieve ambitious goals in energy efficiency, renewable energy sources, decarbonization, energy security, and the development of the internal energy market.
The Integrated Energy and Climate Plan (NECP) is not only a commitment to the Energy Community membership but also a key instrument that steers the country towards a sustainable energy future. The plan sets clear goals and measures that will help Bosnia and Herzegovina align its energy sector with European and global standards while contributing to the fight against climate change by reducing greenhouse gas emissions.
Through the implementation of the NECP, Bosnia and Herzegovina will work on increasing energy efficiency, expanding the use of renewable energy sources, and strengthening energy security, which will significantly contribute to the reduction of harmful gas emissions and mitigating climate change.
Appreciation was expressed to all institutions, organizations, and citizens for their active engagement and contributions, which enabled the creation of a high-quality and comprehensive document. This plan is an important step towards an energy-sustainable and climate-responsible future for Bosnia and Herzegovina.
