The Sarajevo Energy and Climate Week (SECW) is a carefully designed international event aimed at supporting the transition to a sustainable energy system in Bosnia and Herzegovina and the Western Balkans region. It also seeks to raise awareness about the importance of sustainable energy and climate change while connecting experts from various sectors to exchange knowledge, experiences, and innovative technologies.
The Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Industry (FMERI) recognized the importance of the SECW conference. To the great satisfaction of the conference organizers, the second edition of SECW was held under the patronage of FMERI.
In his opening speech at the conference, FMERI Minister Mr. Vedran Lakić welcomed the participants and visitors. On this occasion, the minister emphasized that the topics addressed by the conference are of crucial importance for the development, progress, and future of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Europe, and the world as a whole.
Minister Lakić also participated in the first panel discussion at the 2nd SECW, titled: “Responding to CBAM: What are the possibilities for reducing CBAM’s impact on the energy sector?”
During the discussion, Minister Lakić and his fellow panelists explored the establishment of a dialogue with the EU regarding the application of CBAM to Western Balkan countries. They highlighted the importance of recognizing existing energy agreements with the EU through the Energy Community, as well as the signed Stabilization and Association Agreements (SAA), which regulate free trade. These countries should not be treated as “third countries” under the EU CBAM Directive.
As a gesture of gratitude, SECW representatives visited the Federal Ministry of Energy, Mining, and Industry and presented a certificate of appreciation to Minister Vedran Lakić for the ministry’s support and active participation in the 2nd SECW conference.
We look forward to collaborating on the 3rd SECW conference, which will be held from September 22 to 26, 2025.
Building a together an energy-efficient and sustainable future.
